“Just Eyes” Makeup Seminar

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Yesterday I attended an all day makeup seminar at The Blackstone Hotel in downtown Chicago and it was awesome! The class was taught by an awarding winning movie & tv makeup artist, Thomas Surprenant.

The class was structured where he would give a demonstration on his model, then we would partner up and try it out on each other. He would then walk around and critique our work and give us some pointers if needed. It was fun to get confirmation that I am on the right track ( :

I was able to walk away with an amazing set of professional makeup brushes, a lifetime discount for a makeup distributor who makes products for Makeup Forever & other well-known brands, a certification, and endless makeup tips and tricks!

I wanted to share a few pictures with you all that I snapped of work Thomas did and work that I did, enjoy!

Quick beauty fixes!

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Some quick beauty fixes that you might find really work for you when you are on the run!

Clumping mascara? Use a clean mascara wand to try to get rid of some of the clumps (while the mascara is still wet), then use a tooth pick to separate your lashes.

Puffy eyes? Place an ice pack on your eyes for a minute, then dab some chilled Preparation H  under your eyes until it’s absorbed. Add a touch of concealer (a pink base cancels out the purple) & you should see a difference!

Mosquito bite? Place an ice pack on the area for a minute, then dab some Visine eye drops on the red area. Add a touch of concealer (a green base cancels out the red) & red be gone!

Teeth stains? Always carry around some teeth wipes with you for a quick brush in between your red wine, coffee, or tea to get rid of the stains!

Makeup Seminars

Friday, July 16th, 2010

I have decided to start attending makeup seminars throughout the Chicagoland area. I have been so excited to come across some great classes that are offered and there is a special one coming up by my favorite makeup artist, Kandee Johnson (truly a once in a lifetime experience I’d say – who knows when she’ll be back in Chicago!)

Some of these seminars can be pricey, but you can never have enough hands on experience, along with some great tips and tricks (many of these classes also have you leave with some awesome parting gifts!)

So to those aspiring makeup artists like me (or to those just looking for a fun class), let me share some seminar information I have come across (and some that I will actually be attending soon!):

www.glaminar.com – Kandee Johnson will be in Chicago on August 14th with half day and full day sessions!

http://lastlooksmakeup.com/class_list.asp – from everyday makeup to special effects makeup classes!

http://www.makeupfirst.com/makeup-news.asp – hair and makeup courses!

http://mbeaute.com/events.html – bridal makeup seminars!

Maybe I will see you at one of them!

Beauty & Pregnancy

Friday, July 9th, 2010

I’m now in my 2nd trimester and continue to read about things I should and shouldn’t be doing when it comes to certain beauty products & what new things I can expect. Here is some good info I have come across:

  • It is normal during pregnancy to grow hair on other parts of your body, such as your abdomen, face, or back. Don’t shave, but using a hair bleach every so often might be a good option at this time!
  • Creams or oils (such as vitamin E oil) or other treatments have not been shown to prevent stretch marks. They do, however, help with skin dryness and may reduce itching. It doesn’t hurt to lather up your body more during pregnancy in case it might help you with stretch marks! (more…)
